Tiroler Ski Club: Presidents Letter 2010

By Richard Rettig

This past season was very rewarding for club members who took part in our ski offerings as well as social events. Our Western trip was to Telluride, CO, where we all enjoyed returning to the Ice House as well as skiing a great mountain. George Roller led another group for a three night trip to Mt Snow. Both trips met our goals and were run successfully for the club. We also had our annual picnic, a well attended dinner dance, and three socials, one at my house, one at Uwe’s, and a winery oldies event.  In the coming year, we will repeat all the social activities, add some new ones, and offer three very interesting and varied ski trips…..we’re heading to Park City, Lake Placid, and France! !

I want to thank all of you for having the confidence in electing me president for a fourth term. It isn’t possible to run this club without the support of a dedicated board. There are lots of changes in the composition of the new board, so I am counting on the ‘newbies’ to follow in the footsteps of our retiring board members. Maryellen Doyle Irvine is the new first vice president, taking over from Karin Choi, who worked tirelessly for many years in many positions. We wish Karin the best, and know she will remain a loyal Tiroler. Brian Workman, our hardworking membership chairman for 4 years, is our new second VP.  No one has taken the Secretary position yet, (any takers?) that Joyce Schaller held so well. Maryellen has also quietly assisted (taken over?) the job of webmaster, and is adding more information to the www.tirolerskiclub.com  site, as well as our Meetup.com listing. We ask each of you to go to http://www.meetup.com/Tiroler-Ski-Club and register as a member for automatic updates on our activities. We have a (not so) new face, Jim Krueger, as our membership chair. Lastly, we have our Past President, Carol Farr. We owe her a debt of gratitude for two years of leadership at the helm of the club and I will miss her dinner-served board meetings and her teacher’s ability to command the attention of our noisy club!

Now for our SKI AGENDA for 2011: Already announced is our March European trip to Trois Vallees and Paris, France. The Trois Vallees is Europe’s BIGGEST ski area, at about 6 times the size of Vail! We’re also planning a three night Super Bowl weekend drive-up trip to the fabulous town of Lake Placid/ Whiteface NY. This trip will include an Olympic Passport as well as an optional Bobsled Run ride.  In addition, look for our flexible and reasonably priced trip to Park City, Utah  in early January which will put you close to the slopes and the in-town action plus allow up to  5 days on the slopes for less than$1000!!   More information to follow on all.

We have a number of great SUMMER ACTIVITIES lined up. We hope you can join us for fun, food, and friendship at:  a “President’s reception” social at my house (June 13th ) and a Shady Brook Farm Wine Concert in June; the Bucks County Blues festival and a Float Down the Delaware (tubing) in July; our fabulous annual picnic on Sunday, August 15th at the Schroeder farm, followed by another wine and dance evening , this time at Crossings Vineyard in Bucks County.  See attached pages for details.

Always feel free to email me with ideas and suggestions. We (the board) want to serve our members and offer fun events for those with like-minded interests. Help us help you!
